Laguna Honda Hospital’s leadership problems have had a long, “colorful” history. Senior managers were moved in who would obediently change the hospital’s mission and patient population. They began to admit dangerous, robust, and behaviorally challenged young patients from SF General, mixing them in with elderly vulnerable patients, many with dementia, creating a volatile milieu for both patient populations.
