James F. Curtis was ELECTED SF Police Chief in 1856

San Francisco’s Police Chief is a Ping Pong ball bouncing between Mayor and SFPOA

The Wiki description of conditions in SF in 1851 were due to cops who were crooked.

Today they aren’t as crooked as then although they do still murder people and steal drugs.

Today … they simply do THE VERY LEAST THEY CAN GET BY WITH.

Know what a Political Platform is ?

1. I guarantee 300 officers on permanent Foot Patrol

2. I guarantee Public toilets adjacent to Front doors of every station

3. I guarantee I will only hire recruits who are graduates of an accredited college or Junior college

4. I guarantee to Outsource recruit hiring.

5. I guarantee to try not to shit and fall back in it

Well, that last one was kinda an attempted funny but you know what I’m getting at here.

In 2024 if Elon Musk really cares and will fund this ballot measure …

Citizens of SF will be able to not only elect a top cop directly responsible to them but to give them whatever power they need to maintain independence from the Mayor and SFPOA.

Mike Hennessey used to say:

"It might take you several election cycles to get a Chief who works to enact their Platform.
If they don’t you can vote them out until you get someone like me who will stay for 30 years."

Nobody in SF History ever got more total votes than Mike Hennessey.

Hey, I’m just the messenger here.

Go Niners !!

Campers,

Here’s what Wikipedia says was one citizen’s description of SF cops …

In 1851, Albert Bernard de Russailh wrote about the nascent San Francisco police force:

As for the police, I have only one thing to say. The police force is largely made up of ex-bandits, and naturally the members are interested above all in saving their old friends from punishment. Policemen here are quite as much to be feared as the robbers; if they know you have money, they will be the first to knock you on the head. You pay them well to watch over your house, and they set it on fire. In short, I think that all the people concerned with justice or the police are in league with the criminals. The city is in a hopeless chaos, and many years must pass before order can be established. In a country where so many races are mingled, a severe and inflexible justice is desirable, which would govern with an iron hand.[2]
