Here’s a post I just offered on Mission Local but there was something that I didn’t include in the post that kinda defined the difference in this Peskin ‘Shut the people the fuck up !!’ idea of Public Comment Then and Now.
The ‘Class of 2000’ was so open (Daly had no furniture when he moved into his office and staff ate pizza on floors_ …
The Ammiano/Gonzalez crew was so interested in listening to the Public that they developed a kind of short hand to extend the comments of particular speakers …
Remember that it is a rule that the Public Speakers cannot directly address members of the Board that it does not mean that they cannot address the Public Speakers.
You’d here phrases like …
"Tell me more … "
and
"Could you elaborate on that ? … "
Last supe I heard use this to hear more from a speaker was David Campos and that was in a Committee hearing.

They chose whatever they get from rich White people over the health and safety of their own oppressed Black people. I recall watching the original hearings on one of these concrete crushing and ‘recycling’ (told some got into Bay Bridge repair) … It was Class of 2000 and they actually (except for Peskin) enjoyed listening to the Public. Gonzalez as BOS prez would allow 5 minutes per speaker on more technical topics where there was lots more info in the pews than on the dais. One of those after midnight things was the proposal to crush concrete from construction debris on the pier and there was real worry that it might end up getting mixed with other things and make bad concrete or something. Now they’re mixing it with garbage ? At around 3 am or so a company rep said that they’d agree to have an inspector at the gate where every load of used crete would be dumped and inspected and reloaded for purity. Ah, yes … purity. Wonderful to see Marie’s daughter carrying the Family banner. I worked with her mom for many years. I can recall our ‘Bullet’ adventure of driving around following a van in the rain and it was going to Black Voting Poll Places and picking up people to go downtown and ostensibly vote in place of voters who had not shown up at local precinct. Adriel Hampton, City Editor of the old Fong Examiner was driving and pretty soon there’s a black van following usssss ! But, that’s another story and congratulations on a rare victory for the people of the Bayview. Go Niners !! h.
