New Police Commission lots friendlier than the Old one

Hey, I’ve known Police Commissioner Debra Walker for around 25 years and we’ve been close allies for at least 20 of those so it should come as no surprise that a couple of weeks working to engineer her out of her slot that I’m there hat in hand asking her to use her power to help another of my favorite Projects, the Patrol Specials and she’s promising to keep me in the loop which I hope doesn’t mean noose.

So, I covered the meeting tonight (first in a month) and sat in front of Mission Local’s Eleni Balakrishnan who reminds me of Katherine Hepburn playing a reporter for Spencer Tracy.

Deputy Chief Walsh held down the corner and is no longer gun shy of me no pun intended and is more natural as I eavesdrop on them all good naturedly kinda and with it being Budget Season I’ve been making a few pilgrimages down to Willie’s Dome to weigh in on and suggest Charter Amendments and wardrobe changes and the like.

Max Carter-Obertstone has had 3 hairstyle in 3 months and his hair sure grows fast as he began Zero Buzz then went to early close-cropped Afro to medium cut that doesn’t distract from his face.

Walker has always been the British looking school marm in her perfectly tailored tweed jackets.

I married 3 women who approached life like Cindy Elias that is head-on with a Positive Attitude and Best Hopes and quick loud and encouraging defusing and energizing laughs.

An hour or so of the 3 hour meeting went with doing Text Grafts to old DGO’s to make them Compliant with Prop E now the law and the Chief got a bit upset when Carter-Oberstone split hairs between whether a Police Car Chase should include data such as whether it had resulted in an apprehension but Chief says it’s not in Prop E and therefore is not needed and was getting peeved but Max was just being a damned good lawyer doing exactly what he was appointed by London who presently hates him, to do as he thinks is right doggone it !

Much as I make fun of these endeavors, I take them very seriously and prepare assiduously and was digesting the Agenda online in a couple of 4am and 6am sessions that burned through couple of quart presses of mud coffee with heavy raw honey and 27 thc Sativa til you hit that kinda mellow plane  …

I gotta go smoke some more now.

I went to the meeting and sat in the middle of a few press and lotsa cops but it was a very laid back Police Commission tonight.

Ten more til the election if they can get the quorums and I was there and will be there pushing Mayoral Candidates to commit to allowing the 471,000 People choose our Police Chief from a variety of candidates each with their own Platform.

I know lots of these commissioners and departmental folks from the courts when they were defending my students and the dozens of campaigns and when the meetings end there’s usually just a few people left and I’m a serious adult and all that but these people are my soap opera stars and if I weren’t there I’d be watching it on my wall to wall plasma.  lol

There was a wonderful presentation of a hybrid between a Japanese Koban and Lucy’s Advice stand mixing cops and cbd’s and social workers fronted by a retired SFPD Commander his own words and created by 3 or 4 wonks who won me instantly except their unit is mobile and I want a 24/7/365 dedicated thing with a Pulpit for a Preacher on one side and hookups for a Jazz Quartet on the other.

New Commissioner (former elected judge in East Bay but more importantly, a Big Ten running back for Minnesota or Wisconsin or something) he’s fitting in and came over after class to mix with the leftover audience of a half dozen with Carter-Oberstone who is taller standing up than sitting down and like Paul Henderson works hard on their body to stay trim and his Second-in-command is brilliant as of course is Commission President, Cindy Elias whom I’d also never me but have watched for couple hundred hours like everyone else and I’ve known Henderson since Willie Brown cut Kamala ahead of Paul in line to be DA and now she’s a heartbeat from President and a reporter said that The Board of Supes put the Charter Amendment to put Henderson’s job as Director of the Department of Police Accountability.

Paul still does cameos for major news networks and I hope he runs for his job cause I’ll vote for him if it goes that for and it will because, like Police Chief, voters like to get involved in choosing the leaders of Major Public Safety Agencies.

I gave the girls and guys cheap bracelets like I always do as the old teacher on the Mardi Gras float.  lol

Covering these things is work to some but it’s a night on the town for me when they go like this one and the Community Meeting before the Hill Bomb which got lots of discussion tonight too and I called out Rafael Mandelman for being a kill joy what with the Death of Halloween in the Castro down to blocking processing of Permit Applications and the like that came from Livable Cities and Skating Bizzness people by way of Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development.  

Chastised that boy on TV I did and he deserved it.

Told Chief Scott that next year they should Plan for a Party not a Riot and celebrate the fabulous World Class athletes that abound here and admit that some of them are indeed, skaters.

You get the idea that the new Board with Judge Clay and a pact with my old friend Debra Walker to let me help her on her Patrol Specials Portfolio and I’ve begun already working with Chat Gpt.
